What is the God Talks process?

How did Ed discover the God Talks process?
As he explains in more detail in the God Talks book, Ed was in a counseling session at a time in his life when he was struggling to find purpose, direction, and fulfillment (despite external success in his life). His counselor guided him into a conversation with God. And that was the first time he connected with God in this way. Does God Talks work for any religion or faith practice?
